ICSC in association with MECSC is pleased to announce the 7th edition of these prestigious awards that honors the best in the industry.

ICSC Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards will be presented at RECon Middle East and North Africa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for outstanding achievement in marketing, retail and design.

Gold Winners of the ICSC Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards will be automatically submitted for the ICSC Best-of-the-Best Global “VIVA” (Vision, Innovation, Value, Achievement) Awards.

The Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards are a prime opportunity for shopping centre owners, retailers, developers, management companies, architects, designers and industry professionals to showcase their efforts in design, development and operation of their unique centres and award winning retail stores.

2017 Award Jury

Emre Pelin  
 

Emre Pelin is a seasoned executive with 20 years of FMCG, petrochemical and real estate experience with blue chip global and leading regional companies spanning experience throughout the Middle East including work and living experiences in Turkey, Saudi Arabia and UAE. 

Emre holds a diverse background with a proven success record that began with The Coca-Cola Company’s Turkey region where Emre personally led the development and implementation of high profile programs including Ramadan programs,  global and local sports activation to add value and depth to brand Coke. Emre's first exposure to the GCC came in 2000 with a sales and marketing role for Saudi Aramco where Emre successfully built a direct retail and consumer marketing division for Aramco’s 
Petromin operation in Jeddah.

 

Avijit Yadav CMD, CSM, CDP, CLS, CRX

Associated with the shopping centre industry for over 15 years Avijit has worked in marketing, management and development of shopping malls across the Middle East and Canada. He is currently Chief Operating Officer for GLA Property Management Company W.L.L, which develops and manages shopping malls in Kuwait where he oversees a portfolio of 5 properties and works on several projects in the development pipeline. He has previously worked as General Manager at Oxford Properties, Toronto, Canada and in mall marketing in Dubai. Prior to joining the shopping centre industry, Avijit worked in advertising for 9 years.

 

Maimunah Shebani 

Maimunah Shebani is the Managing Director of the Retail Agency in Oman. Throughout her career, she’s been involved in real estate and retail development where she gained a solid understanding of the real estate sector and retail fundamentals. Maimunah has been affiliated with the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres (MECSC) since 2012. Previously, she was the regional representative of Oman for the Middle East Council of Shopping Centers (MECSC) and has successfully held a number of Next Gen Networking events in Oman. Currently, she is a Board Member of the MECSC.

Maimunah holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Bedfordshire, UK. She is also certified by Manchester Business School in Strategy and Planning.

 

Mohammad Alawi  

A strategy think tank, with over 25 years of experience in tuning towards success, various developments and existing retail properties in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. 

With well-versed skills and persistent follow-up in operations and marketing, Mohammad created two retail epics of their time, Hera Community Mall at Madinah Road and the iconic super-regional, Red Sea Mall at King Abdul Aziz Road in Jeddah. He also carries in his career portfolio 8 other shopping malls which were developed during his work with SAVOLA. 

Mohammad, a public Saudi figure on the retail scene, chairs the Shopping Malls Committee at JCCI, a member with the promotions and events Committee at JCCI and a member with the National Saudi Tourism Board in Riyadh. 

On a regional level, Mohammad is an active member with the executive Board of Directors at the Middle East Council of Shopping Centers in Dubai since 2000, part which he was the President from 2007 t 
ill 2009. 

Mohammad was nominated in 2013 thus was elected as Board Trustee at the International Council of Centers in 2014 with a seat in New York, to become the first Saudi, Arab member representing the middle east. 

An active panellist, Juror and Speaker at many events and conferences in the region, Mohammad moves ahead of his time utilizing all the state of the art resources to achieve his goals. 

SAVOLA, Al AMOUDI, MAF and SKAB are names linked to Mohammad's career path. Currently heads one the most dynamic Real Estate Development Company, Red Sea Markets Co. with a vision to turn it into a major player at the Shopping Malls Industry in KSA.             

 

Lizelle Fitoussi is a marketing & communications expert with deep roots in Africa.
After graduating from University with an Honours Degree, she started her marketing career working with some of the biggest and leading shopping malls in South Africa. Early in the year 2000, Lizelle decided to move to the Middle East to take up a role as Mall Manager for The Bahrain Mall, where she worked for a number of years.
Her passion for marketing, events and retail took her to Dubai next, where she joined MAF as Marketing Manager for Deira City Centre, and thereafter Mall of the Emirates for almost a decade.
Throughout her career Lizelle had opportunities to conceptualise and execute a myriad of campaigns ranging from grand openings, to sales promotions, CSR & digital campaigns, and she has won more than a dozen internationally recognised marketing awards.
Lizelle had the pleasure of consulting for a number of shopping malls in the UAE before she joined the MBI Group as Head of Marketing (Asset Management & Retail) where she continues to apply her expertise and strategic direction to marketing, retail, specialty leasing and senior management teams.

 

 

Nada Abou Saab 

Nada Abou Saab has more than 19 years of experience in the Middle East’s business landscape, eight of which have been within Majid Al Futtaim, where she presently serves as the Marketing Director -- Shopping Malls for some of the region’s leading retail and leisure destinations.  

Nada has extensive experience in working across the Middle East and North Africa, and has garnered a proven track record of driving market share, brand recognition and revenue generation through strategic marketing initiatives.  

As part of previous roles in sales and marketing in the MENA region, Nada developed considerable multinational expertise in the region’s growing hospitality and retail sector. She holds master’s degree in business marketing and administration from the Lebanese American University.

 

Pam Bryson

Pam Bryson is a dynamic marketing professional with over 20 years of specialized experience in the shopping mall, retail and entertainment industries across Canada, the Middle East and North Africa. 
In her most recent position as VP of Marketing for the IMG Group of Dubai, she was responsible for the rebranding and launch of the world’s largest indoor theme park – IMG Worlds of Adventure, Dubai. This project was a unique first-of-its-kind development, in partnership with Marvel International of Disney and Cartoon Network of Turner Broadcast.

Prior to this, Pam held the position of VP, Marketing for the largest developer and manager of shopping malls in the Middle East – Majid Al Futtaim where she worked for 10 years overseeing 12 shopping malls, with a combined GLA of more than 11 million square feet. During her tenure, she established a dynamic marketing department comprising over 150 employees and oversaw grand opening launches of some of the most iconic shopping destinations in the world including: Mall of the Emirates (featuring Ski Dubai), Mirdif City Centre Dubai; Bahrain City Centre, Bahrain and Beirut City Centre, Beirut – Lebanon.

Before returning to Dubai in 2003, Pam and her husband lived in Cairo, Egypt where she held the position of General Manager of Marketing & Research for a large multi-use development which included 7 office towers, 2 residential buildings, 3 hotels and a super-regional shopping centre – CITYSTARS.

Originally from Canada, Pam held the position of Director, Regional Marketing for Invanhoe Cambridge where she oversaw the marketing activities for 21 shopping malls in Western Canada.

She is a graduate of the University of Calgary, Canada and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Major in Marketing. She is an ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centres) designated Certified Marketing Director (CMD), has over 25 ICSC Marketing awards credited to her name and has held various positions on ICSC committees, teaches at the Professional School of Development for ICSC, and was an awards’ judge for the ICSC Marketing awards for over 15 years in Canada, USA, Asia, South Africa, the Middle East and Global Viva Awards. Pam currently lives in Dubai with her husband and twin boys.

 

PHIL McARTHUR, CRX, CSM, CDP

Founder and Managing Director

Phil McArthur has dedicated his professional career to the development and expansion of shopping centres globally.

Over the past 30 years, Phil has developed an international reputation for strategically positioning projects, ensuring efficient execution and delivering consistently strong financial returns in the shopping centre industry across the Middle East, North America, North Africa and Asia. 

In the Middle East, Phil has held senior directorial and managerial roles on such prestigious projects as Dubai Festival City, Deira City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, Muscat City Centre and CityStars in Cairo.

Prior to founding McARTHUR + COMPANY, Phil held senior executive positions at renowned real estate companies such as Ivanhoe Cambridge, Al Futtaim Group, CityStars, MAF Shopping Centres and Brookfield Properties.  He has a long association with the New York-based International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) as a past Trustee, as well as a faculty member of the ICSC’s John T Riordan School for Professional Development.  Phil has served as President and Board Member of the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres, as well as Chairman of the ICSC Middle East & North Africa Design and Development Awards.  He is currently a member of the ICSC Global VIVA Awards committee.
